Event Details
#trulondon - 2 is the second Recruiting Unconference London event. For those who attended the event on 19th November 2009, you know what to expect. For those who could not make it here is a taste of what you can expect.
An unconference is an event that has no fixed structure and only two rules, no power point and no presentations. The day is split in to sessions during which a series of "tracks" run on a theme with a track leader hosting the discussion, debate and learning. The discussion takes a life of its own with attendees bringing their own views, questions and opinions as well as debate. This takes many directions and concludes with real learning and opinion forming. The track leaders have been carefully chosen from their areas of experience and knowledge and the value they can bring to the "track" and have been drawn from across the globe giving a real global view. We will be adding to the list of track leaders right up to the day of the event (and even during it.)
You are actively encouraged to disagree, argue, debate and question, all we ask is that you respect one another. In addition to the published tracks we will be adding to the list by request right up to the day. If you want to add a track just contact us and we will set it up. We will also be encouraging impromptu tracks throughout the day whenever a new subject comes up. An unconference is about what you want to discuss and is not restricted by any fixed agenda.
Day 1 is a technology focussed day looking to the next 5 years and Day 2 will cover all things people related to people, recruiting, talent and a whole host of conversation topics. No doubt the days will cross over. Day 1, we will be producing a white paper on future technology.

Social Media Circus
Track leaders: Matt Alder, Paul Harrison, Jim Stroud
The most popular attended track at #trulondon 1, this time with the addition of international social media superstar Jim Stroud from Atlanta as well as the great brains of Matt Alder and Paul Harrison. This will be a very lively and informative track that will be repeated throughout the 2 days. Come early, expect a crowd for all the tricks in the circus.
Employer branding v Employee branding
Track Leaders: Nick Price, Sarah White, Michelle Fischer, Jon Ingham
Following on from the popular Recruiter Cast debate "Is the Employer Brand dead?", this track looks at the issue of employer branding. How to stand out as an employer and how recruiters can use employer branding. Has employer branding is turning in to employee branding as a result of the social media explosion and the growth of the personal brand. Branding experts Nick Price, Michelle Fischer and Sarah White from the U.S. will be debating all the issues in this key area.
The future for recruiters
Track Leaders: Mervyn Dinnen, Bill Boorman, Matt Burney
Recruiters face unprecedented challenge from corporate recruiting, social recruiting and direct application. Changing expectations from clients and candidates pose new challenges. The role of both the third party and corporate recruiter will need to change, or will it? What do you see as the big issues facing recruiters and what will the role look like in the future?
Job Board 2020
Track Leaders: Keith Robinson, Alan Whitford, Simon Lewis.
To read the many blogs on the future of job boards you could be lead to believe that there isn't one! Recent results globally both in terms of revenue and traffic suggest something to the contrary. Will the future be in specialist or generalist? How will social impact on the traditional model? Will the job boards need to become active in networking and create communities where the job board is just a part or will the current model stay the same? If it's not broke, why fix it? Simon Lewis from Only Marketing Jobs will represent the job boards, supported by the unrivalled views of Keith & Alan.
Endangered Species.

From H.R. to recruiters, we seem to hear of the imminent passing of all the trades we recognise are facing extinction from a changing world. Who is next to start pushing up the daisies? This track promises to be lively and global looking at who is on the endangered species list, why and what they need to do in the future to ensure a brighter future.
Battle of the bloggers

There’s many benefits to running a well read blog but the skill and discipline needed to build a community around it and to generate real benefit for business or an enhancement of employer as well as personal brand. Laurie's blog "Punk Rock HR" achieves all these objectives and more globally. Andy Headworths renowned blog Sirona Says is building a similar reputation this side of the pond. Learn the whys and the how’s in this highly interactive blog. Since #trulondon there has been a noticeable uptake in blogging in the sector, attend the track and join the crowd.

UK Sourcery - A new way of working

To follow immediately after the Sourceology track and lead by Katharine Robinson. Sourcing is largely unpractised in the UK. Katharine Robinson leads this track calling on her experience in the UK market as our leading exponent. Can sourcing be integrated in to the UK model? How can you find people who are largely offline? Does sourcing sit well with British culture? How would you conduct a search here? Expert input from Jim & Geoff, but for this track Katharine is very much the boss. Bring your assignments & set the sourcers a challenge.
Recruiter Big Brother

Video is a great medium to communicate message and it doesn't need expensive production. Anyone with a webcam or flip can vlog. Video C.V.'s/Resumes don't have a future (or do they?). How to get the most out of video as a medium and why you should be thinking about it. The simple way to make movies. Take part in the track vlog and upload before the end of the session.

Global live lab - A social media experiment

The live lab sees Paul Harrison connecting the online world with the combined brains of #trulondon? Open twitter stream & other channels to take questions and discussion points projected on to a large screen for tracks to tweet back their answers and thoughts. Don't be surprised to see a dip in to the wave (has anyone worked that out yet? One for a secret track?) and a look at Facebook. Who knows what problems will be solved and views shared?
Culture Clash

This track will look at the key points to come out of the event & continue the conversation here in the UK. Will the take be different or are the issues faced & solutions found global ones?

Social media has brought us together, where will we end up?

At the close of each day all tracks will spend 45 minutes consolidating the learning & thinking of all the attendees in open discussion in order to focus the mind on the next step.
Event Extras:
As well as the tracks Keith Robinson will again be running live recordings for Recruiter Cast & Career Cast. The titles of the debates will be announced on the day & you will have the opportunity to take part & star on internet TV.
We will also be broadcasting live internet radio shows including Ready For Lift Off, Recruiter Lounge, HR Happy Hour & RCEuro Leaders. Take the chance to jump in the conversation & be a part of the shows. Broadcasting times & hosts will be announced at the start of each day or keep an eye on the twitter stream.
All this and the many secret tracks which will spring up to cover all things you want. Keep your eye out and be comfortable to stay in any track just as long as you want to.

10 Things About Me:
1: I’m a serial twitterer. I joined the channel in March 2009 and to date have posted over 31,000 tweets, with no signs of letting up.
2: I have worked in and around recruiting for 27 years as a Recruiter, Temps Consultant, Manager, Operations Director and Training/HR Director. (12.5 years.) I started consulting and training recruitment firms in 2005, and have been doing that since.
3: I have been ranked 6′th and most recently 4′th in the trakkr/HRExaminer index of “Most influential on-line recruiters.” The index is based on an algorhythm that measures mentions, link-backs, reach and relevance of content. 4: At the end of 2008 my network consisted of 50 Linked In connections, mostly ex-colleagues, then I decided to get social.
5: I am not technical in any way. I can’t programme and I often have to ask for help with basic tasks. What i am quite good at is finding tools and applications and working out how to use them to network.
6: I love talking, listening and learning. I share my networks with some great people that help me do this. I can usually be found in twitter chats, on the phone or out meeting people for networking or just a beer.
7: I’m Dad to Frank (11) and Alice (8). They both keep me busy and give me plenty of inspiration.Kids have an inherent ability to question everything, learn and not worry about looking stupid. When do we lose these natural abilities? I have been married to my long suffering wife Fran for 16 years.
8: I have run 27 marathons badly, though I’m a bit out of shape at the moment. Will be working on this in 2011. I once tried to break a world record for dragging a tyre around the London Marathon route, all 26.2 miles, while dressed as a 6ft clown. It took 10 hours and I came last, crossing the line in the dark.
9: I live in a village (Earls Barton) in Northamptonshire, UK with my wife, children, Bear the Cat and Jack the Rabbit.
10: I split my time between organising #tru events, (The Recruiter Unconference), training Recruiters and key-note speaking. That and quite a lot of networking! I will travel anywhere in the world to speak.
